I grew up in a rural town in Indiana, biking the back roads to my friends house in the summer, getting my bare feet dirty on the tar roads, chasing fireflies in the evening, and sleeping out on our trampoline in the backyard under that beautiful stars. I played little league softball, ran cross country, and was on the cheer team.

 

I've since made my way to (mostly) sunny San Francisco Bay Area, where I live with my husband, two kids and our pet rats, Frosty and Rudolph (born on Christmas). While I miss the open landscape of my childhood in the country, I love that I am now close to the ocean, the Redwoods, and the mountains. California has been my home for 15 years.

In my past lives, I've been a freelance graphic designer, an amateur contemporary dancer, and an ESL teacher. I spent a brief four years of my life studying English and World literature in Illinois where I graduated with a BA. It wasn't until I became a mother that I rediscovered my love for drawing.

​

Once I picked up an iPad and learned digital art, my illustration world exploded into so many wonderful things. Illustrating allows me to tap into my curiosity for research and the world, my imagination, and my eternal love for all the colors in the rainbow. 

 

My published works include My Trip to the Alphabet Zoo written by SuAnn Kiser and Joy the Pandacorn written by Maggie Lauren Brown. At the end of 2022, I opened an Etsy shop, Fia Kilbourn Art, to make my art available as digital downloads to crafters and designers (and anyone else) looking to add color and charm to their projects.

When I'm not scribbling away on my iPad, I'm often reading a book (or two), bouncing on a mini trampoline, hanging out with my family, and let's be honest, scrolling Tiktok.

 

I'm interested in illustrating children's picture books, chapter book and middle grade cover art and interior art, hand lettering, and children's magazines​.
